Our History

The charter members of Sharon MBC agreed together in 1889 to become a local church body. The land, which the church still occupies today, was given in 1870 for church, school, or any other public use as the community should see fit.

The first building erected on this land was in 1875. It was a two-story structure and served as the Farmer's Union Hall. By 1882 it was also being used as the Union Church building. In 1889 it was reorganized as a Missionary Baptist Church, but it was not until 1925 that the church voted to associate with the churches of the American Baptist Association. Brother E. M. Milum served as the church's first pastor.

Early in the twentieth century the original building was destroyed by fire. In 1910 a small one-room house was built. In 1928 this structure, along with all the church records, was also destroyed by fire. Church services were temporarily held in a brush arbor.

In 1932 money was successfully raised to build again and Brother Conrad Glover preached the dedication sermon. From 1932 - 1948 Sharon Church experienced God's blessings and growth in attendance.

In 1949 the cornerstone of a new building was laid and the dedication for this building was held in July of 1951 with Brother Earl McCallister preaching the sermon for this service. This building was later lengthened to accommodate the growth of Sharon Church under the leadership of Brother E.G. Neilsen.

In 1965 the members of Sharon completed a new auditorium. Through the 1960's and 70's the church continued to enjoy additions that God sent. During this time period additional land was purchased and the ministries of the church expanded.

In 1980 Brother Muncy Harris was called to Sharon Baptist Church as Music and Youth Director and one year later Brother Glen Tropp was called to be the Pastor. Under the leadership of Bro. Tropp, the church enjoyed continued growth. In 1984 a new 700 seat auditorium was completed and this building was lengthened to it's present capacity of 1200. A new fellowship hall/education building was completed in 1995.

In August of 2003 Brother Richard Hamlin was called to be Pastor of Sharon Baptist Church. Accepting the call, Bro. Hamlin began his pastorate of Sharon Church in September 2003.

The Lord continues to bless Sharon Church with additions, but the greatest testimony of this body of Christ is the changed lives that have been transformed by the power of God through her ministries. It is the prayer of the members of Sharon MBC that more and more people will come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and that those who are saved will grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord !
